We were given a folder of interesting letters and newspaper cuttings dating back to 1991. They are all about a battle for the Victoria Recreation Ground. On the one hand the Tilehurst Cricket and Tilehurst Football Clubs were keen to get better facilities for their clubs. On the other hand local residents feared that their access to the Rec would be limited.
As the correspondence progressed, levels of acrimony was heightened and often bitter. It is all worth a read.
So that is why we do not have any cricket and football clubs playing in the Rec now.
